Base Camp is Summit's new Youth House League! Offering programs for pickleball and volleyball, youth ages 10-15 will build skills and confidence as they learn, play and grow - all in a fun and positive environment!
General Program Overview
Each week will focus on teaching one or two skills and will be split into 2 blocks to maximize opportunites for learning AND play.
Block 1: 20-30 minutes of skill development in small groups (1 coach to 6-8 players).
Practicing the fundamental skills of the game - passing, volleying, serving, etc.
Block 2: 50-70 minutes of game play. Game play will build progressively, following the Volleyball Canada, Ontario Volleyball and the Long Term Athletic Development recommendations. Each team has a coach that will help with proper positioning, rotation, encouragement and on helping players succeed!
Skills and game play will build progressively as we move through each session and the entire program.

DAVE WARD: Summit Co-Founder
Dave has spent most of his career creating and organizing engaging programs for young people. He spent 12 years in senior management at the YMCA working in Aquatics, Outdoor Education, Youth Engagement, Member Experience, supervising multiple sites and hundreds of children's programs. Dave has a teaching degree, a Masters in Education and was one of the first YMCA Healthy Adolescent Development Training Educators in Canada. He brings a passion for helping young people grow and learn to Base Camp's staff and program.
ERIN CARTER: Head Coach
Erin has spent the last 8 years coaching volleyball in London, working with various age groups. Erin has spent time coaching with Team Ontario and Team Manitoba, and most recently was the assistant coach of the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team. Erin spent 2 years with Boys and Girls Club of London developing various youth sports programs in the London and surrounding community. Being Advanced Development Certified, Erin brings a keen eye for progressive programming that best supports athletic development.
Defne Erikson - Coach
Dafne is a long time coach in the London community, working with both adults and youth as an assistant coach and lead coach! With both her youth and adult programs, Dafne is creative when it comes to teaching and exploring new skills in ways that everyone can understand. She works to create a fun, joyful environment and is looking forward to leading a group of young athletes!
Kristen Son - Coach
Kristen has been coaching in London for two seasons now, after playing club volleyball for 6 years! Kristen's favorite part about coaching is making memories, being part of someone's volleyball journey and helping them fall in love with the sport. Kristen is a versatile player, and has a deep knowledge of the game. Kristen brings joy and smiles to every game and is excited to get on the court!
Adriana - Coach
Adriana played volleyball in London for 8 seasons, and has coached in local youth league for about 2 seasons. Growing up playing volleyball in London and then passing down her knowledge through youth foundations programs, Adriana is excited to step back into the coaching role and work with youth! Her favorite part of coaching is the opportunity to teach kids new skills and seeing them light up when they pick something up.
Rob Pass - Coach
Rob has been playing volleyball for 9 years, most recently for the Fanshawe College team, and has been coaching for 8. Rob's favorite part about coaching is seeing a player have success by implementing something they have been working on.
Introducing Summit’s Pickleball Base Camp! A fun and exciting house league pickleball program suited for all skill levels! We are currently offering programming for players aged 10-15. Our focus will be on learning the fundamentals of the game and putting them into practice in real matches, all under the direction of our Head Pickleball Professional, Chet Zimmerman.
General Program Overview
Each 90-minute session will be split into two blocks: one for learning, the other for play! Sessions are designed to be progressive, developing the participant’s game incrementally as the weeks progress.
What will each session look like?
Block 1:
10-15 minutes - warm-up and mini games
10-15 minutes - new skill
10-15 minutes - integrating new skill into a match
Block 2:
Players will play doubles matches with a different partner each week. Competition will also be
rotated allowing each player to play new opponents each match.
Bonus:
At the end of the session players will have a chance to compete in our sessional tournament, and
each player will go home with a prize!

CHET ZIMMERMAN: Head Coach
Known for his positive and encouraging energy, Chet leads our pickleball programming with
special attention to equal participation and enjoyment for all his players. Chet has coached
players of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to competitive players. He has a tremendous
passion for the game which he loves to share. Chet’s coaching philosophy is player-centric,
focusing on connecting with each student and making sure that they are getting all they can out
of their pickleball experience. Currently, Chet is gearing up to compete in the Ontario Cup in
January 2025.
